How can I prepare for a wax? Any aftercare?

Hairs need to be at least 1/4 of an inch grown out (7–10 days of hair growth). I recommend all my clients get on an exfoliation and hydration routine using a dry brush or body scrub every other day, and some type of unscented lotion daily, with the use of an ingrown hair serum for the Brazilian area. For 24–48 hours after a Brazilian wax you want to avoid ANY activity involving heat or friction that could potentially cause ingrown hairs on the freshly waxed layer of skin (hot tubs, saunas, gym sessions, sexual activity, etc.).

Is waxing really better than shaving?

YES! Wax once a month (4–6 weeks) or shave DAILY with that uncomfortable itching period and bigger risk of ingrown hairs? The goal of waxing is removing the hair by the root, so over time we've damaged the hair so much the follicle is dead and the hair won't grow back, resulting in thinner, more fine hair with sparse growth.

Does it hurt?

Yes and no — the first time is the most painful, so I always recommend taking an ibuprofen for first timers about 30 minutes before the appointment. Even on the 2nd wax you start to get a little more comfortable with the wax process, and it's over before you can even think about it. It's important to keep on a consistent wax cycle with NO shaving in between to keep thinning the hair by the root — otherwise we're starting back to square one and it FEELS like the first time Brazilian all over again!
